I have not posted on this blog in seven days. That does not, however, mean that progress has not been made! In fact, the opposite is true – I have been working on the design so much that I have not found the time to post about it as well, so my next few posts will be a bit of a catch-up.
The reason for the rush was an email conversation with the UH engineering department. They had kindly offered to help out with the production of my circuit boards, but unfortunately there were a couple of restrictions caused by their equipment – most notably a lack of through-hole plating, electrically connecting the tops and bottoms of each board. A quick bit of thinking about my intended layouts showed that this would not work for me, and so I needed to get a manufacture order placed ASAP. I managed to find a company that should be able to deliver my boards by the end of July without having to spend too much (most UK quotes I had received were over £100!), but each passing day before submitting my designs meant one less day to construct the finished product and do my write up – and that assumes that there are no mistakes on v1 of my board!
I managed to get my order placed yesterday, so the pressure is off a little now, and I can do some catch-up blogging. My next six posts will cover my processes from the last week:
- The new stripboard prototype
- Lessons learned and a slight redesign
- The overall schematic
- Splitting the schematic
- The I/O board
- The logic board
